DARTS AROUND ESSEX – December 2005Well here it is December already and we will soon be sitting with out noses glued to the ‘box’ for both the BDO and PDC championships. Essex have their own players to cheer on as well as their favourites from other counties and countries. Essex players who will be appearing are Steve Maish, Wayne Mardle, Kevin Painter (Now living in Cambs) and of course, world number one, Colin Lloyd. Here’s wishing you all a great Christmas and let’s hope a prosperous New Year.WICKFORD RAMPANT!In the 10th annual challenge match between Brentwood and Wickford, Wickford take a 5-4 lead following their impressive 21-9 victory at the Bardswell Club. Both teams suffered from players being unavailable but still produced an entertaining and quality contest. Wickford took an early 4-2 lead with Single wins from Mark Franklin (106 check out) and Ian Curtis, and Pairs’ wins from Mick & Leon Smerdon and Chris Rayner & Ray Chettur; Brentwood singles wins came from John Wastenage and Peter Wiffen. Dave Solly, Jack Gutteridge, Larry Oxborrow and Les Atkins extended Wickford's lead with important single wins; with Brentwood only scoring a point with a pairs win from Jamie Manchester (180) & Mark Gooding. A glimmer of hope for Brentwood emerged as Manny Barragan, Lee Musto, Jamie Manchester and Simon Pratt all achieved single wins; however Carl Smith, Roger Burton, Ray Chettur and Chris Rayner all hit back for Wickford; and with Brentwood unable to secure a single pairs game the match was lost, this despite Roy Crabb (136 checkout) and Captain Paul Sedge's wins. John Henderson (Wickford) hit two maximums in his singles win. Martin Exell (Wickford) had a 114 checkout in the pairs as Wickford romped home winning all the last seven pairs to secure their first victory since 1999. As usual the game was played in a great sporting manner and both teams will be looking forward to next challenge on Thursday April 6th 2006, venue to be confirmed. êêê Apologies to all those who made the wasted journey to the Little ‘N’ Large Club in Wickford for the Autumn Open back in November.
