 DARTS AROUND ESSEX – NOVEMBER  - 2005

9-DART KEVIN…

Kevin Edwards (Colchester) became the first ever player to achieve a nine-dart leg in the Essex Super-league. In a recent match against high riding Shotgate, at the Anchor in Tiptree, Kevin scored 180-180-141 game shot to level the score in his singles game against Daniel Sare. Unfortunately for Kevin he went on to lose the game.

MORE SUPER-LEAGUE NEWS

Men’s: Basildon are top, winning all four of their opening games, Shotgate and Cressing are 2nd and 3rd respectively a point behind. There have been some great games, the pick of the best games are: Adrian Genery (Harwich), who beat Peter Webb (Great Dunmow) 3-0 with winning legs of 15, 18 & 14 for an average of 31.98; Dave Orton (Shotgate), who beat Gary Middleton (Loughton) 3-1 with winning legs of 15, 12 & 19 for an average of 30.69; Mick Baglow (Wickford), who beat James Allison (Hatfield Peverel) 3-0 with winning legs of 16, 16 & 18 for an average of 30.06; Barry Adlam (Thameside), who beat Mark Banham (Ingatestone) 3-1 with winning legs of 14, 14 & 16 for an average of 31.76; Daniel Sare (Shotgate), who beat Kevin “9-Dart” Edwards (Colchester) 3-1 with winning legs of 16, 14 & 21 for an average of 29.61; James Noone (Colchester), who beat Ben Adams (Thameside) 3-0 with winning legs of 17, 16 & 14 for an average of 31.97; Dave Orton (Shotgate) again, who beat Adrian Genery (Harwich) 3-0 with winning legs of 16, 18 & 15 for an average of 30.67; Larry Oxborrow (Basildon), who beat Peter Webb (Great Dunmow) 3-0 with winning legs of 13, 16 & 21 for an average of 30.06; Steve Maish (Shotgate), who beat Simon Cook (Harwich) 3-0 with winning legs of 16, 18 & 16 for an average of 30.06.  In the Four’s knockout, Shotgate ‘A’ (Steve Maish, Steve Smith, Daniel Sare & Dave Orton) beat Colchester ‘A’ (Kevin Edwards, Bryan Willis, James Noone & Andy Cole) 3-1 in the final. Ingatestone ‘A’ and Hatfield Peverel ‘A’ were the losing semi-finalists. 

Ladies: Braintree are top of the table after four games with Wickford second and Clacton third. Best games have come from Sue Waterman (Witham) winning 3-0 with a 23.12 average against Karen Breen (Clacton); Lynn Kelly (Braintree) winning 3-0 with a 20.59 average against Sheila Busby (Clacton); Amanda Dodd (Braintree) winning 3-0 with a 20.59 average against Jan Willis (Clacton); Wendy Johnson (Chelmsford) winning 3-0 with a 20.59 average against Maureen Smee (Wickford);

Darts Around Essex Inter-league Charity tournament

The Ingatestone & District became the first league to retain the title with back-to-back victories in the 4th annual tournament. Yet again Brentwood, Ingatestone, Harlow, and Wickford continue to support this great event, with the Harwich & District league returning. A superb field saw a very close contest; with each league playing a round robin singles and pairs that saw all three previous winners qualify for the semi-final knockout stage. Brentwood Borough & District and Ingatestone & District finished joint top with 70-points. Harlow Industrial & Business finished 3rd with 63-points and Brentwood Summer edged out Ingatestone summer by a single point to take fourth place. The highest checkout was 167 from Carl Smith (Wickford & District). Simon Ramage (Vic’s Summer) checked out on 161 and 153, and Mark Davies (Harwich & District) 149 was among the other high finishes. Mark McGrath (Ingatestone Summer) scored 5-maximums to win the prize money; John Wastenage (Brentwood Summer) and David Galloway (Harlow Industrial & Business) both hit four 180’s. Ingatestone & District beat Brentwood Summer 4-3 and Harlow Industrial & Business beat Brentwood Borough & District 5-1 in the semis. Ingatestone (Andrew Kateley, Mark Banham, Kevan Crowe and David Bocking) beat the 2002 champions Harlow (Stuart Willey, David Galloway, Ron Green and Peter Brown) 5-1 to retain the title. Once again the Little ‘n’ Large Family Club were the perfect hosts and Derek Freeman again sponsored the first prize. A total of £290.00 was raised, £240 to be donated to the “Heart of Darts” and £50 to be donated to the “Beach Hut Fund”.

TOURNAMENT NEWS IN THE COUNTY
Friday 11th November: the annual Poppy Appeal Four’s, at the Royal British Legion Club, New London Road, Chelmsford. Entry fee £5 per teams of three or four. Draw at 8:15 pm. Please note that all proceeds go to the Poppy Appeal, no cash prizes, trophies to winners.

Sunday 27th November: the Wickford Autumn Open, at the Little ‘N’ LARGE Family Club, The Broadway, Wickford. Entry fee £4, payable on the day, Registrations from 11:15 am ‘til Noon; Toe the oche at 12:30 pm. Limited to 128 entries.

AROUND THE LEAGUES

Ingatestone & District Summer: Finals night saw many great games in an evening's full programme. The Mixed Triples was won by Alan Church, Martin Compton (Black Bull) & Yvonne-Hall-Wilson (CSC) winning 3-0 against Dean Willsher, David Bocking & Debbie Knox (Chelmer Inn) In the Mixed Pairs, Andrew Westcott (Royal Oak A) and Tara Crown (Bentley Allstars), regained the title with a 3-1 victory over Paul Williams & Elaine Rackliff (Charlie’s Mob).

The Bullseye knockout was won by Andrew Kateley (Chelmer Inn) beating Paul Williams 5-2. In the divisional singles knockouts; the Division 1 title was won by Andrew Kateley (Chelmer Inn) beating Roy Crabb (Railway Hotel) 3-2; an all Oddfellows Arms division 2 final saw Andrew Sartorius winning 3-1 against David Howgego; Paul Williams playing in his 3rd final of the night, lost 3-2 to Scott Bennett (Chelmsford Social Club) in the division 3 final; Jim Wheldon (Victoria B) beat Kevin Dorrington (Prince of Wales) in the division 4 final. In the Champion of Champions, John Wastenage (Crown) beat Roy Crabb two sets to nil in the final.

Basildon Monday: With all the early season cup games completed next June’s finals are known. In the Charity cup, Bowers 'B' will be playing Vange 'B'; in the Open Singles, Ron Johnson will be playing Steve Johnson (both of Vange 'B'); and in the Watts cup, the final will be contested between two teams from Vange 'B'.  The Blind pairs final will be between Des Marples and Ron Brooker against Brian Kinnane and Alan Carrington; and the Bowers cup final has Bowers 'B' against Vange 'B'. There were 53 players that entered the Del Lewis Trophy with Alan Carrington (Bowers 'B') making it into the final against Brian Kinnane (Vange 'B'). £160.00 was raised on the night for Cancer research so a big thanks to all those involvement.  The first league matches have now been played and there were wins for Vange 'B' over Bowers 'B'; E - Riding over Woodlands; Vange 'A' over Bowers 'C'. Bowers 'T' vs Little 'N' Large and Chalvedon Colts vs Ghyllgrove ended in draws. Alan Carrington has scored six maximums of the 31 scored so far; Alan also has the highest finish with 130. Paul Hurley of Vange 'A' has had a 13-dart leg.
